Goings on for a Sunday morning.

Pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea, whatever your pleasure, and sit a spell.  it’s Sunday. Just a little summary of the farm family goings on. First we have the Hippie Chicks and the Guinea Hens.  Not much going on there.  They basically do their own thing, expect treats and mind their own business..except the guinea hens are nuts.  Every night the Hippie Chicks tuck themselves into bed in the Hippie Chick Inn and the Guinea Hens are all over the place.  I have to bribe them with mealworms to get them inside. (maybe they aren’t that dumb??) Then we have Mo the mini donkey and Thunder the mini horse.  They are a team with Thunder leading the way.  They also control the barnyard.  They go where they want and do what they want and everyone lets them.  Right now Mo is mad at me.  I’m not sure why…

Wonderful Fall Weekend

I have been so excited and I admit more than a little nervous about this coming weekend.  I’d been wanting to host an open house forever so I finally bit the bullet. It was long over due.  Anyway, I got a few nudges from Facebook friends and I knew it was now or never.  I think everyone had a ball.  I know we certainly did. October 17, 2014 We started this weekend on friday night when we had some very special guests at our house for dinner.  You know how we live close by the Abbey of Regina Laudis, actually smack dab in the middle of it?  Well my husband is very good friends with a lot of the people there and ever since we moved into our home we have been trying to get together with them for a house blessing.  Well 2 years have passed but we finally…

SwissStock 2014

In case you are wondering what a SwissStock is, well simply put, it is a gathering of all the Greater Swiss Mountain dogs and their families that are related in some way to our two Swissy’s, Dutch and Hauser.  A kind of family reunion. SwissStock came about last year after we hosted a small gathering at our house for Dutch and his siblings. You can read all about that reunion here if you’d like. One of the “Moms”(Marjie) called me and asked if we would be interested in hosting another Swissy event this time for ALL of the Aegis Swiss Mountain dogs and their families.  It would be for an entire weekend with everyone camping out in our big field, staying in the Bunkhouse, bunking in the big barn or even sleeping in their cars. A Swissy Woodstock, a weekend of peace, love and Swissy’s!  Welcome to Camp Swissy!  We set…

Our first visit at The Bethlehem Bunkhouse!

The Bethlehem Bunkhouse opened it’s door this weekend. Come on in and stay awhile. We had our very first guests come Friday night for a romantic get-away weekend.  I was feeling very excited because this was a women I had met from Facebook and we became good friends through the world of blogging.  If you have some time please go pay Bridget a visit here to read her wonderful stories and too funny adventures.  Give her a hug for me, ok? I wanted everything to be perfect for her and her husband Eric. I wanted them to feel at home. Does that look like a chicken to you? We had a major snowstorm the day before they came. Then more snow the next morning. Even more snow while they were here.  We got a whole lotta snow! All the way up to our dining room windows! I was afraid they…

A day in the sun!

The weather in my part of town has been pretty dreary lately.  It is January after all so I expect the snow and because it is New England I even expect the freezing cold.  But what we have been getting is rain and fog and mud.  Lots and lots of mud. Lots and lots of mud.  Oh, and poop. Today the sun came out for a little while and it was actually pretty warm so I grabbed the opportunity to let everyone out to play. First I took the Goatee Girls out for a walk and then I let them hang out in the back yard for a few hours.  It is all fenced in so I don’t have to worry about them wandering off.  I even gave them our Christmas Wreath to nibble on. Pip is exploring I think I even got a smile from Dutchess! Bambi enjoying the…

Our Farm Family

Our Farm Family is growing.  What started with six little baby chicks in April has now evolved into 9 chickens, 1 rooster, 1 swiss mountain dog and 4 goats.  If that isn’t enough there is a good chance that one of the goats is pregnant and due in March.  Little kids… and I’m keeping them!! I thought maybe you folks might enjoy seeing a few pictures of the crew.  Again. 🙂 You’ve seen Dutch once or twice but I don’t think you’ve seen his fancy ear-do. I had to throw this in here because it just cracks me up.  He’s trying to look all serious but then his ear just makes him look so silly!  Poor Dutch is having a hard time with all these new friends on the farm.  He is still just a puppy and although he is extremely good natured around everyone he just wants to run…

Swissie Family Reunion

Our dog Dutch is a Swiss Mountain Dog.  He comes from a great line of Swissies and just recently we hosted a family reunion. Not easy to get these pups to sit for a group photo! Dutch is one of 9 puppies that was born to Noka and Shea, and the first litter for them both.  Noka was 3 years old and Shea was 5 by the time they had Dutch.  They were one of those power couples who had things to do before settling down to raise a family.  Shea, specifically was busy being a show dog.  He was ranked the #1 Swissie in the country for 2010 and in 2011 he won the Top 20 Competition at the National. Daddy Shea and Momma K.  I have no idea who the fox is!! The litter was conceived outside of Detroit through artificial insemination at a repo vet clinic.  Nine weeks…

Cleaning the Poop from the Coop!

So here’s the deal. On monday, wednesday and fridays I like to freshen up the coop.  House cleaning service comes in, gives it a good scrubbing and leaves a present on the pillow.  I like to use Thieves Household cleaner because it is a great nontoxic, biodegradable, cleansing solution that uses theraputic-grade essential oils as a germ-killer and disinfectant.  It is documented to kill over 99.96% of bacteria.  It is made with cinnamon, cloves, rosemary, lemon and eucalyptus.  It smells oh so good and it will not harm my little baby girls. Sounds like a commercial doesn’t it! So first thing I do is poop scoop.  Then I give everything a good scrubbing.  I  clean their waterer and then fill it with fresh water mixed with apple cider vinegar.  I only add the ACV once a week usually on fridays.  Then I head inside the coop to fill their nesting…

Welcome Home

I just got back from vacation.  I went to Disney with my daughter and her family.  I was able to see my 4 year old grandson experience “the happiest place on earth” for the first time.  It is a memory I will hold forever in my heart.  From there we traveled to our home in Naples, Florida where we were able to finally get some much needed rest and relaxation!  I was gone for 8 days.  The weather was perfect.  I had an amazing time.  But….. I missed The Hippie Chicks, Dutch and my gardens.  I thought about them every day and longed to be home.  I missed my early morning garden inspection with my first cup of coffee, the way the girls would run and greet me to see if I had a treat for them or hopeful they would be allowed to free range.  I missed the way…

Dutch

Shortly after we moved into our new home IT started.  The boxes were all unpacked, my baskets lined the shelves, the curtains were hung, the dust was starting to settle.  I knew IT was coming.  I could feel IT.  I started to see signs of IT everywhere.  Literature and images of IT left out on the table.  Books about IT appeared on my nightstand.  Pictures of IT taped to my bathroom mirror and strategically placed in my underwear drawer.  Mumblings of IT at the dinner table.  I tried to fight IT.  I wasn’t ready for IT.  IT is to hard I said.  IT is to messy I complained.  IT is to much of a commitment I argued.  But I was outnumbered.  And before long IT happened. IT Meet Dutch.  Otherwise known as Double Dutch, Dutch Master, Dutchie Dog, No Dutch, Stop Dutch, Damn Dutch or my personal favorite…
