Tomatoes in the Rouladen?

My mom is German and moved to the United States after she married my dad who was stationed there during the war.  My mom is also an amazing cook.  One of her specialties is a German dish called Rinderrouladen or Rouladen for short. Braised beef rolls.  They are a family favorite at our house and often times enjoyed only on special occasions.  It was my daughter’s birthday yesterday and I wanted to make her something special for dinner so this was a perfect choice. Rouladen is not hard to make and the flavor combination of these simple ingredients is a real winner.  There are many different variations of this recipe but I am going to share the one I grew up with and the one I continue to make for my family. The one that has absolutely no tomatoes in it at all.  Never has and never will. (family joke)…

Buffalo Superbowl Sandwiches!

With the Superbowl only a few days away I thought I’d share this quick, easy, delicious sandwich idea with you.  It’s a Rachael Ray 30-minute meal that I’ve been making for years but I never thought to make it for Superbowl until now. This is one of those recipes that you have carte-blanch.  It is very flexible so if you don’t have one ingredient you can use something else.  It can also be embellished with almost anything in your fridge.  It’s perfect!! To start take your chicken breasts and season them well with chili powder, paprika, salt and pepper.  OR.. whatever your heart desires.  I used Lawry’s season salt, pepper and a Cajun seasoning blend this time because that’s what I had on hand.  Really anything hot and spicy would work ( think buffalo! ).  Then take out your big fry pan and get it nice and hot.  Add olive…

Hanging Heart Pillows

Here is an easy project for you that I’m sure you will Love ~ Hanging Heart Pillows. What you will need: Fabric.  Any scrapes that you have will work and if you don’t have that you can always do what I did and cut up one of your kitchen dish towels!!  It doesn’t have to be fancy! Sewing machine of course or at least a needle and thread if you want to hand sew these but why would you? Thread in coordinating colors, or not.  You can use a contrasting color if you so desire and if you can sew a relatively straight line, which I can not! scissors marker heart template ribbon for hanging Polyfill I think that’s it.  Before you can make these you need to get yourself a heart template.  I used one of my heart cookie cutters and traced it onto a piece of sturdy cardboard.  You can…

Goings on for a Sunday morning.

Pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea, whatever your pleasure, and sit a spell.  it’s Sunday. Just a little summary of the farm family goings on. First we have the Hippie Chicks and the Guinea Hens.  Not much going on there.  They basically do their own thing, expect treats and mind their own business..except the guinea hens are nuts.  Every night the Hippie Chicks tuck themselves into bed in the Hippie Chick Inn and the Guinea Hens are all over the place.  I have to bribe them with mealworms to get them inside. (maybe they aren’t that dumb??) Then we have Mo the mini donkey and Thunder the mini horse.  They are a team with Thunder leading the way.  They also control the barnyard.  They go where they want and do what they want and everyone lets them.  Right now Mo is mad at me.  I’m not sure why…
